About me

My name is Adelina Rotaru. I am a trauma-specialized psychotherapist working with adults and groups internationally, offering online psychotherapy grounded in somatic and relational approaches.

My work as a psychotherapist sits at the intersection of psychology, trauma-informed care, and embodied awareness. Over the years, my clinical path has focused on understanding how psychological patterns, early relationships, and nervous system responses shape the way people experience themselves, others, and the world around them.

My relationship with psychology began early, out of genuine curiosity about human experience. What started as an academic interest gradually became a long-term professional path, shaped by formal education, clinical practice, and sustained personal and professional exploration. I have been working in the mental health field for over a decade, and I continue to learn and refine my practice.

Professional background and clinical experience

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy, and I am licensed by the Romanian College of Psychologists. My professional formation includes extensive training in both psychological and body-based therapeutic models, with a strong focus on trauma, attachment, and developmental processes.

Early in my career, I worked with diverse and often vulnerable populations in institutional and private settings, including:

  • children and adolescents with neurodevelopmental challenges
  • children and teens in foster care
  • survivors of domestic violence
  • people affected by addiction and chronic illness
  • LGBTQIA+ youth and adults
  • parents, educators, and young children in educational settings

These experiences shaped my understanding of how suffering, adaptation, and resilience take many forms, and how important it is to approach each person with nuance, humility, and care.

From psychological insight to embodied depth

For many years, I worked primarily within experiential and relational psychotherapy, both as a practitioner and through my own personal work. While this provided valuable insight, I gradually sensed that something essential was missing.

This awareness deepened after becoming a parent, when questions about safety, regulation, and embodiment became more immediate and lived. I began to explore somatic and trauma-focused approaches more deeply, discovering ways of working that addressed not only cognitive understanding, but also the body’s role in psychological organization and healing.

This shift marked an important turning point in my work, leading me toward modalities that integrate psyche, nervous system, and relational presence.

How I work today

As a clinician, I integrate somatic and psychological models that support nervous system regulation when needed, and deeper self-understanding over time. I am interested not only in how people cope or regulate, but in how identity, meaning, and relational patterns are formed and lived in the body.

My approach draws from Somatic Experiencing®, NARM®, Integral Somatic Psychology, Bodynamic, psychotherapy, and trauma-informed movement practices. Therapy is collaborative, carefully paced, and guided by what is most relevant and alive in the present moment.

I do not offer quick fixes or promises of transformation. I offer a thoughtful, grounded therapeutic relationship, informed by experience, training, and respect for the complexity of human change.

A personal note

Alongside my professional role, I am also a partner and a parent of two children. These life experiences continue to inform my understanding of relationships, responsibility, and care, and remind me that psychotherapy is not separate from life, but deeply embedded in it.

Curiosity about the human psyche — emotional, relational, bodily, and existential — continues to guide my work. This curiosity keeps the work alive for me, not only as a profession, but as a way of being with others.
